The Races of Araz
There are several sentient races in the world of Araz, most of which can be found on every continent. They were all birthed early in the Genesis Age, but for the Ancients who were Gods in Tumadrax. Following their arrival on Araz most clashed with the races that had come before, known as the First Peoples, all but wiping them out.
The Ancients (Falara)
The Ancients, also known as the Falara, are Gods who descended to Araz during the Genesis Age. They are powerful and immortal, though are incapable of leaving Weritan. Each of the Ancients rules over a chunk of Weritan, and demand absolute loyalty from their subjects.
The Dragons were the "Teachers of Races" long ago. Now they are reclusive creatures who prefer to dwell away from civilisation. During the Genesis Age, and early in the First Age, the Dragons became victims of circumstances out of their control and lost many of their number.
The Elves were created by the Gods to serve as protectors of the Dragons and, ultimately, as the stewards of the world. They were granted long lives and an entire land of their own called Elrinfar, now lost to the Vaemoresar. They are amongst the wisest of the races, excluding the Dragons themselves.
The Orcs, like the Goblins, were created to resemble the Elves. This time, however, their Gods had more success. Orcs remain twisted reflections of the Elves, but are taller and stronger than Goblins, with greater intelligence. They are prone to cruelty and have been known to engage in the slave trade.
The Drakon'Zoku are a race of humanoid Dragons that stand as tall as an Elf. They value Honour above all else and are master warriors, despite considering themselves a peaceful people. They are the only race that exists in only one continent - Norlim - and are therefore amongst the least numerous.
The Dwarves are a short-statured, reclusive, mountain-dwelling race. They live in immense, masterfully constructed subterranean cities, where they mine for precious stones and metals to feed their desire for money and power. Most Dwarfholds are known to engage in slaving, and it is said they are cruel masters.
The Gods of the Mountainkind took a different approach with the Trolls, using Dwarves as their inspiration. Trolls are taller than Dwarves, and not as skilled or intelligent, but are stronger and tougher than Orcs and Goblins. Norlim is no longer home to Trolls, as they left the continent late in the First Age.
Humans, known to some as Southlings, hailed from the Southlands, around the world's southern pole. They populated Sarrodan, the south of Norlim and much of southern Erendar. The humans are skilled at warfare and art, and are skilled traders. However, they are a greedy race, and a suspicious one.
The Goblins were a first attempt by their Gods at creating a race; they were modelled off the Elves, but ending up being twisted, stunted reflections of them. Despite these shortcomings they have managed to thrive in Araz, though quite often at the price of serving the Orcs or other masters.
The Shades (it is believed) were created and subsequently abandoned by the Falara. They are almost entirely formed of magic and exist across the entirety of Araz in a multitude of forms. Since the Genesis Age some variations have disappeared, the causes unknown, but many others continue to exist.
The Northlings came from the Northlands, and inhabited most of the northern reaches of the world. Very few can be found in Sarrodan. They are very similar in appearance to Humans, but for greater height and paler skin. They are skilled warriors, and are not so vulnerable to the vice of greed as humans are.
